Wings John 20: 27-29 “Then He said to Thomas, ‘ Reach here with your finger, and see My hands; and reach here your hand and put it into My side; and do not be unbelieving, but believing.’ Thomas answered and said to Him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Because you have seen Me, have you believed? Blessed are they who did not see, and yet believed.’”
Have you ever stood at the airport and watched the planes take off? Do you know how those big metal birds lift themselves off the ground? Well, when an airplane shoots down a runway, the wind rushing over the top of the wing creates a vacuum under it. The air that rushes up to fill the vacuum under the wing pushes the wing upward and gives the plane the lift it needs to get off the ground. If you didn’t have that rushing air, you couldn’t fly the friendly skies.
There’s a good parallel here with our faith. Thomas had “wings.” He knew Jesus intimately and should have had a faith that soared. He didn’t have to run or do a bunch of work to activate his wings, but he needed to trust that Jesus would provide the wind and the lift.
Thomas wanted evidence. Like a baby bird, he stayed perched on the nest of familiarity. He was afraid to take the step of faith into the unknown. He wanted proof from Jesus before he’d exercise his wings.
You’ve got wings, too. The more you swiftly activate the wings—your faith—the higher you’ll go. Jesus promised that. He knows you haven’t seen Him, and He’ll bless you for stepping out in faith.
How can you make your faith soar? By trusting God with your needs, hopes, and plans. By reading God’s Word carefully and doing what it says, believing that God knows better than the world. By praying to God sincerely, with total dependence on Him.
Christians shouldn’t be doubters. Ask yourself some questions. Do you constantly worry about your life? Do you doubt God will come through in a crisis? Are you too self-reliant? Must you always see proof? Is it hard for you to release things?
The Lord knows it’s tough to have faith. But you don’t have to stay on the spiritual runway. If you’ll trust Him, He will enable you to “mount up with wings like eagles” (Isaiah 40:31)
